About
Heather Lee Kolbo was born in Nevada, Iowa. She displayed a love for art at an early age. Having grown up both surrounded by woods and with a creek directly in her backyard she also developed an incredible love and bond with nature. She pursued art in college and graduated from Northwest Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts emphasis in Drawing and Painting.
Heather currently lives in Portland, Oregon. She gathers inspiration from traveling to new places and exploring in the mountains and around the majestic Pacific Northwest. She is attracted to shapes and patterns in the littlest of things most others may rarely notice. She is drawn to intricate patterns in nature, worn structures and buildings, rusted metals, peeling paint, and the everyday wear and tear of time on objects. She has exhibited work through out the Portland area, the Pacific Northwest, and has work on display in several galleries in Oregon. She has traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe. Her subject matter is garnered from the surrounding beauty of the Pacific Northwest and other places she travels.
Heather paints with reclaimed wood. Repurposing wood brings back rich memories of her childhood in Iowa building treehouses and forts from found materials; and prevents these items from ending up in our landfills. Many of her pieces utilize texture, color, and the grain of the wood to celebrate the natural world from her explorations.
